Corinth Retail Village & Park

Program: Commercial, Public Square & Skate Park

Location: Corinth, Greece

Type: Feasibility Study

Architect: John Kanakas

Period: 2021-2022

The feasibility study overall explores the scenario for the creation of a retail village surrounded by a public square with different amenities and a skatepark, while respecting the environment and implementing a sustainable design approach. The aim is to create a vibrant attraction point, while rejuvenating the surrounding neighborhood, where visitors from Corinth as well as Athens, Patras and other Peloponeese cities will be visiting, since the site is strategically chosen to be close to the Athens – Patras Hightway and only 200 meters from the Corinth Train Station. The proposal for the commercial part is suggesting an easily constructable modular aluminium system that would be repeated around the site in various sizes and come in single or double levels, to allow for different brands to rent their needed sized – space. The roofs and the extrnal walls of the retail pods would be either glazed or green. In order to leave behind a green footfrint, the design proposal suggests green roofs and vertical gardens on the retail pods. In many pod-roofs, there will also be placed solar and photovoltaic panels for energy purpsoses, while aaiming to achieve a self-sustained commrcial village. The proposal for the public square in contrary to the commercial part, has a more organic language, to attract visitors into the site and guide them around the different programs while letting them get immersed on the various activities occuring on their way. A skate-park, in the center of the public space, would also be part of the public space. Two water features are also designed on the public areas around the central plaza, while creating a more relaxed environment. Landscaping is covering most of the public spaces Lastly, a parking siteis  dedicated to the retail village visitors.
